4/23/12
We
took out Bob & MaryAnn and their son
Kevin from New York (up state, not the
city, lol).
It was Bob and MaryAnn's 30th
anniversary so the plan was to fish
until noon. Then we could finish out the
day with a nice Intracoastal Waterway
cruise. It was beautiful morning as we
came out the inlet with seas as smooth
as a lake and the sun just rising above
the horizon. Chris (mate) put out the
last line just in time to hear the left
short-rigger start screaming. Bob was
first up and brought in a nice size
little tunny to the boat. Next up was
Kevin when the shotgun drag fired off.
After a short run, Kevin put a blackfin
tuna to the ice box. Then it was
MaryAnn's turn when the right
long-rigger started screaming. After a
nice fight, MaryAnn put her first
blackfin tuna in the box (without
touching it. LOL). Things slowed down a
bit so we headed out to a little deeper
water and noticed the wind was starting
to pick up a little and change direction
with the seas building too. Not finding
any weed lines or any better signs in
450' we headed back into shallower water
where we had the action earlier and
worked our way north along the 100-200'
ledge. After an hour or so of no action
on the rods, we saw a pod of porpoises
and a couple Loggerhead Turtles mating
(once-in-a-lifetime event!). A few
minutes later the shotgun started
screaming and Kevin caught his first
mahi-mahi while Bob brought in another
big little tunny off the left
long-rigger. So we decided to stay out a
little longer and make a couple more
passes on this spot. We picked up 8 or 9
more little tunny, and also got cut off
by a huge wahoo or king. The wind really
kicked up by this point, so we decided
to pull the lines in and head for the
inlet.
Once inside the inlet we surprised Bob &
MaryAnn with a bottle of champagne and
small anniversary cake as we took in the
beautiful sights of the elite luxury
homes along the Intracoastal. Thank you
Bob & MaryAnn for spending such a
special day with us on board Reel Chaos. |

4/10/12
The
Reel Chaos had the pleasure of taking
out New Jersey natives Leslie and her
mom Naomi & dad Nelson yesterday. Nelson
is pretty big into the offshore
sportfishing up there. The plan was to
to get Leslie hooked up to her first
billfish, so sailfish were on the radar
and live bait was going to be a must.
Scott with Target Live Bait told us that
several boats have been seeing blue
marlin free jumping this week off Palm
Beach and one boat hooked up and
released a blue marlin Monday along with
some nice size mahi around the 600 feet
depth region.
About five minutes outside the inlet we
had our lines in the water. Chris (the
mate) just put the last line out of our
seven trolling lines when the left
flatline started screaming off line.
Chris handed it to Nelson for a short
fight and then it was gone. We had been
cut off clean by either a big a king
mackerel or wahoo. Only a few minutes
later our right long rigger started to
scream. This one was on solid and Leslie
got a nice battle from what turned out
to be a “hoss” barracuda.
We ventured out to some deeper water and
just when we crossed the 200 foot mark I
see this mahi greyhounding across the
trolling spread and it hammered the
right side short rigger. Leslie picked
up the rod and the mahi put on a nice
show for us before going into the box.
After a few more passes trying to find
the mahi’s mate, we trolled on out to
800 feet in the quest for finding “Mr.
Blue”, but we just couldn't raise
anything.
Next we headed back into the shallower
fishing grounds and the bonito action
kicked in. After 8 or 9 of them we were
starting to realize the size of these.
They were like bonito on steroids with
some as heavy 20 plus pounds. Although
we didn't get Leslie hooked up to a
billfish, the weather was great, and we
had dinner in the box. We can't wait to
do it again with our new extended family
from Jersey! |

1/7/12
The weather was beautiful, 77° sunny NE
wind @ 5mph so Capt. Blake took out some
college buddies and friends (Jeff,
Aaron, James) yesterday. These guys had
never been offshore fishing before so it
was just for a fun day and not really a
charter. They hooked 4 sailfish using
live bait and one blackfin tuna. We
heard that this last cold front brought
the sailfish in close so Blake wanted to
give it try. They also had a wahoo cut
them off on the sailfish rigs before
they could get him to the boat. If you
are considering a charter, give us a
call. |

12/22/11
The wind and the seas have been steadily
laying down and just in time for a great
Holiday weekend forecast. Trolling
ballyhoo rigs for dolphin has been good
doing well and will continue. Sailfish
have been rough but are being caught on
live bait rigs. Some king mackerel have
been showing up in catches lately.
Grouper have been getting a lot of
attention from anglers right now because
the season for them closes on Dec. 31. |

12/15/11
As you might
expect this time of year the wind and
seas have made it difficult to hit a day
and go offshore but the boats that have
made it out are catching dolphin, wahoo
and king mackerel.

12/2/11
Lots of reports of
good catches of sailfish, wahoo, dolphin
and yellowtail snapper over the past few
days. The fishing is good for the folks
that want to give it a shot.

We are still
dealing with a lot of wind and rough
seas but there have been good catches of
wahoo, sailfishing, king mackerel, and
dolphin. |

11/4/11
Another windy
report with plenty of rough seas. The
few boats that have chartered with folks
that have been willing to take a beating
have been catching sailfish, skipjack
tuna, along with a few wahoo and nice
dolphin. |

10/23/11
The last week has
been very windy creating some pretty
rough fishing conditions. Only a few
boats have been attempting to fish.
Before the blow though they have
reported good catches of blackfin tuna
and yellowtail snapper. There were some
nice size dolphin and a few wahoo mixed
in also. |
